New York City

New York City is always a whirlwind for me. Vibrations above and below ground at all hours of the day and night. So much going on. I want to take it all in! While in the City I stay with my best girlfriend, Jenny, who lives in Harlem. So it is nice to be in a neighborhood full of community. Coincidentally, Jenny’s mom, Suzie, shops at the market too because she has a women’s boutique in Lexington, VA called Pappagallo. We have fun crossing paths at the show, eating lunch, and talking shop.

Katie Thompson ( KT Collections – we sell her jewelry!) came over one night and it was helpful to talk shop with her too about her designs as well as other jewelry. The next morning Suzie and I went downtown to shop for more jewelry. It was something that I had never done before and I was overwhelmed at the selection! I think it will be nice to have more selection. We have added some nice inexpensive fashion pieces that may feel like  a little boost to go with a black wrap or tank top.

I will say this- I missed bringing Maya (my daughter) on this trip. She is in 3rd Grade this year and SOL’s started while I was gone so I couldn’t in my right mind justify it. Amberlyn came with me and we worked our booties off. I got to expose her to working all day in NYC on the piers (fashion!), the newest restaurant in Harlem (I loved supporting another women small business owner) and Pinkberry (wish we had one in Charlottesville)! We spent the most focused part of our time at the booths of Hard Tail and XCVI. Working with them is always rewarding because their lines are so beautiful and the people that we work with are helpful and just, great! Coming soon Tee’s By Tina. This seamless line is being worn by lots of Hollywood stars. We will post pics when it all comes in. Check out our Facebook page for current deliveries and more!

OH! And we visited LaDuca. LaDuca. LaDuca. So much fun for Amberlyn and me. Probably because we are just dance shoe obsessed. Wow. They were the most comfortable dance shoes that I have put on. You all know these shoes. They are what every professional wears…..From the Rockets to the movies and Broadway musicals. I have had one or two people ask about them over the years but to all of you out there – If you want The Hip Joint to carry these superior (but more expensive of course) shoes, please let me know. I want to know that the public wants before I invest in this line.

Anticipating LaDuca!

OK. Time to sign off but I also want to congratulate all graduates! Happy Graduation! Best wishes to you all!
