Pointe Shoe Fitting Reminder + Contest & Sale!

We just wanted to send you a quick little note because we know that recital season is right around the corner and you may be in need of replacing your worn out pointe shoes. That being said…We STRONGLY recommend that you call in advance to schedule a fitting. Not everyone at the shop fits pointe shoes, and we would like to make sure someone is here before you make the trek to downtown Charlottesville. Also, when you schedule a fitting in advance, we are able to provide you with better service and can make sure we have options in your size, for those harder to fit feet. Also, just so you know, on Saturdays we are only taking fittings from open to 1PM. Unfortunately, to have a fitting later than that will be a little difficult, not impossible, but difficult. As for Sundays, the regular employee does not fit pointe shoes; however, there are one-two fitters “on call”, provided that the fitting is scheduled at least a day in advance. Please know that we will NOT have a fitter available on Sunday, May 6. We apologize for this inconvenience.

One other thing, we wanted to take this opportunity to tell you about our POINTE SHOE DECORATING CONTEST & SALE!!!
(Below are all the details!)
International Dance Day!
Sunday, April 29th

Celebrate International Dance Day at The Hip Joint on Sunday, April 29th with a pointe shoe decorating contest and store-wide sale.  The shop will be open from noon until 5PM. Participants will receive a pointe shoe to decorate in the shop with provided art supplies.  All finished work will be hung in the window as a display for the following two weeks. The artist with the design that receives the most votes from the public will receive a $100 gift certificate to The Hip Joint. There is no purchase necessary to participate.  You must be at least six years old to decorate a shoe and enter the contest.

All inventory that is in stock on International Dance Day will be 15% off, except for pointe shoes.

In 1982 the Dance Committee of the ITI founded International Dance Day to be celebrated every year on the 29th April, anniversary of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), the creator of modern ballet. The intention of the “International Dance Day Message” is to celebrate dance, to revel in the universality of this art form, to cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers and bring people together with a common language – Dance.

We hope to celebrate with you.  See you soon!
